Rana Limbo, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, Director, Bereavement and Advance Care Planning Services Dr. Limbo has been involved in perinatal bereavement care and education for nearly three decades. She is a co-author with Sara Wheeler of When a Baby Dies:A Handbook for Healing and Helping. As a researcher, Limbo did groundbreaking research about miscarriage in the mid-80s. She is currently involved in research on miscarriage and caregiver suffering. Limbo worked with Professor Karen Pridham,University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing, on developing and implementing Guided Participation (GP) as an intervention to support caregiving competencies in mothers of infants and young children. She currently uses GP to educate perinatal bereavement professionals. Limbo is a contributing author of position statements on Screening for Prenatal and Postpartum Depression and Childbearing Loss and Grief (publications of the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care), and a former psychotherapist. Limbo is a member of the International Work Group on Death, Dying and Bereavement (IWG), an invitational international organization of approximately 150 members that seeks to advance and nurture the development of the field. |

Bernard J. Hammes, PhD, Director, Medical Humanities, Director, Respecting Choices Dr. Hammes came to the clinical setting with a doctorate in philosophy from Notre Dame in 1984. Since that time, he has been providing ethics education, consultation, and advance care planning education to the medical staff, house staff, medical students, nurses, social workers and chaplains. His work has focused primarily on improving end-of-life care at Gundersen Lutheran Health System in the La Crosse, Wisconsin community where he serves as chair of both the institutional ethics committee and institutional review board. Dr. Hammes has led the development of two successful, award-winning advance care planning programs: “If I Only Knew…” and “Respecting Choices.” In addition, he has published 33 articles and book chapters about end-of-life issues. Dr. Hammes is a member of the International Workgroup on Death, Dying, and Bereavement (IWG) and was recently elected Chair of the National POLST Paradigm Task Force.

Linda Briggs, MS, MA, RN, Associate Director, Respecting Choices Ethics Consultant, Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation With 25 years of nursing experience as a critical care staff nurse, nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist and educator, Ms. Briggs brings extensive insight to clinical and educational perspectives related to healthcare ethics. She received her master of science in bioethics and has published her thesis “A Competency Based Educational Curriculum for Ethics Committee Members” and is co-author of the Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning Manual for Facilitators. Ms. Briggs provides education and consultation to individuals and organizations interested in implementing the nationally recognized Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning Program. In her role as an ethics consultant, she facilitates the development of several ethics committees in Wisconsin.

Sue Grant, RN, Dipl. T. Broadcasting ACP Consultant With 30 years of experience in healthcare from front-line nursing to healthcare leadership and professional development, Ms. Grant's work in the field of advance care planning education is a natural extension of her expertise. She has led the development of a Respecting Choices advance care planning initiative for a healthcare system in British Columbia and continues to consult with other organizations and professionals in Canada. Ms. Grant authored Fraser Health's My Voice Workbook© and e-book for advance care planning, and co-authored a 2007 Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Science article titled Advance Care Planning: What's all the talk about? Additionally, Grant assisted in the development of curriculum materials for Facilitating Advance Care Planning: An Inter-professional Education Program for use in Canadian undergraduate and post-graduate settings.

Sandy Schellinger, RN, MSN, NP-C The focus of Ms. Schellinger's 26 years of nursing experience has been on the care of patients and families with chronic, progressive illness. Schellinger is a board certified adult nurse practitioner and is currently the program development manager for advance care planning for the Allina Health System in Minneapolis, MN. Ms. Schellinger also provides hospice and palliative care consult for Allina patients and families.
